IT ISN'T RINGING

One call comes at a time. The next one rings a few hours to a day after you've answered the last, between 10 in the morning and 9 at night, so some days are quiet for hours. With notifications on (Settings › Notifications › Wrong Number) it rings even when the app is closed. With them off it still comes: it's ringing the next time you open the app.

Nobody new calls until you've picked up the call that's waiting. If it's been a while, open the app: it's probably ringing.

A call follows your iPhone's ringer and Focus settings like any other notification, so in silent mode it only buzzes.

ANSWERING AND HANGING UP

On iPhone Duo: open the phone to answer and close it to hang up. Closing a phone that's still ringing doesn't reject the call; open it again to answer. A silly call's notification has a Decline button.

On any other iPhone: green answers, red declines or hangs up.

Tap a call's notification and the app opens ringing. There's no such thing as a missed call: whenever you open the app, the call that's waiting is still ringing, however long ago it came in. If you don't pick up for two days, you'll get a reminder.

You can't make out what callers say, and you're not meant to. The subtitles on the phone's screen are what they're saying, more or less.

CAN I CHANGE THE COLOUR?

No. You pick it once, on the first day, and it stays that colour for as long as the app is on your phone. Deleting the app and installing it again starts over with a new phone.

MY PHONE IS CRACKED

That's the phone getting older. Every call you answer wears it in a little: scuffs, then a faded keypad, then a cracked screen, then a line of dead pixels and a creaky hinge. Nothing is wrong with your iPhone.

And if one day it goes dark mid-call, that was meant to happen. Keep an eye on it the next day.

CALLING OUT

You can dial, but most numbers aren't in service. Most.
